Powers Dance Project

More Thanan Instructor.

Great teaching is about more than great technique.

I’ve spent my life pursuing, performing, and teaching an art form that demands extraordinary discipline. I believe in rigorous training, meaningful corrections, and challenging dancers to discover what they’re capable of. But experience has taught me that the way we pursue excellence matters every bit as much as the excellence itself.

OUR MISSION

More Than Movement. Always.

Elevate

We elevate dance education with high standards, held with care.

Inspire

We inspire dancers to discover everything they’re capable of becoming.

Make an Impact

We make a lasting, positive impact in the lives of dancers.

Before I Was an Instructor, I Was a Dancer.

I often think about the little girl who walked into her first ballet class at three years old, completely unaware of just how much of her life she was about to spend standing at a barre. What began with tiny ballet slippers and creative movement classes quickly became something much bigger. I fell in love with the music, the movement, the traditions, and the seemingly endless possibilities of ballet. There was something magical about an art form that could be so disciplined and so expressive all at once. I didn’t know where dance would take me, but I knew I wanted to keep dancing.

As I grew older, so did my ambitions. Years of classical training eventually led to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a professional performance career, bringing with them remarkable teachers, extraordinary artists, unforgettable experiences, and more than a few hard-earned lessons. I discovered the incredible satisfaction of working toward something that once seemed impossible, but I also experienced environments where the joy of dancing could get lost somewhere between the expectations and the criticism. It’s a strange thing to love something so deeply and occasionally struggle to remember why.

Today, I bring all of those experiences into my work as an educator. The remarkable teachers who inspired me, the difficult experiences that challenged me, and the unexpected turns that changed my plans have all influenced the way I approach the classroom. I believe in the discipline of classical training, the importance of thoughtful instruction, and the extraordinary things dancers can accomplish when they’re challenged with purpose and given the tools to succeed. Above all, I hope my students find precision, artistry, and confidence through their exploration and education in classical dance.

“Before I can help a dancer figure out their next step, I want to know where they’re hoping to go.”

One of my favorite questions to ask my students is, “What do you want to do with dance?” Some dream of professional ballet companies, Broadway stages, or college dance programs. Others are still discovering what they love, and some simply dance because it makes them happy. All are wonderful reasons to walk into a studio, and all deserve to be taken seriously.

I believe a strong technical foundation is essential, but what we build upon it should be as individual as the dancer. From the classes they take and the choreographers they work with to the auditions and opportunities they pursue, thoughtful training should reflect their ambitions. Knowledgeable instructors don’t just teach technique; they recognize potential and know how to help students develop it.

And none of that happens in isolation. It takes educators willing to collaborate, families who are part of the conversation, and a community willing to share its knowledge and connections. Sometimes the most valuable thing we can offer a young dancer isn’t another correction at the barre, but an introduction, an experience, or a door they didn’t know existed.

I want my students to dream big, but I also want them to understand what it takes to pursue those dreams. Their goals may change along the way, and that’s part of growing up. What matters is that they have the guidance, preparation, and people in their corner to explore what’s possible.

Big dreams deserve more than encouragement. They deserve a plan, the right people, and the opportunity to get to work.

Why Powers Dance Project?

After a lifetime spent in dance studios, I’ve come to believe that some of the most valuable conversations in dance happen beyond the classroom.

The questions dancers are afraid to ask, the guidance parents are searching for, the knowledge educators have to share, and the opportunities we might never discover without one another.

Powers Dance Project grew from the belief that those conversations deserve a place of their own. A space for dancers, parents, educators, and artists to connect, share experiences, exchange ideas, and continue learning together.

I certainly don’t have all the answers. But after all these years, one thing I know for sure is that the best journeys are never taken alone.

More Than Movement.

Welcome to thePowers Dance Project.

A movement built by dancers, for dancers.

See you at the barre,
